There are some essentials that you can’t go wrong with. Below are 5 of the best landscaping tools that everyone should own!
Gardening Gloves
Yard work can be tough on your hands if you aren’t wearing the proper equipment. Investing in a nice pair of gardening gloves will save your hands from the elements that you encounter in the yard.
Between thorns, prickers, bugs, and skin rashes, gardening without gloves is a hazard. Grab a nice pair for your hands and go a step further on protection with a long-sleeved shirt and pants.
Shovel
Almost every landscape project involves some digging. Finding a sturdy shovel that can take care of your gardening and digging needs is a must.
Make sure to “try your shovel on” before you buy it. If it fits – the shovel handle that comes up to your chest is a good starting point – you will avoid injury. Shovel handles are also diverse. Wood handles are strong but tend to be heavier than their fiberglass counterparts. A little research can go a long way with your selection!
Rake and/or Leaf Blower
Depending on your workload (and budget), investing in either a rake or leaf blower makes cleanup a breeze. If you can have a rake and leaf blower, then we suggest that you do!
A leaf blower simplifies leaf and grass pick up, and using it can be fun! While the leaf blower is a great cheat code for cleaning up yard waste, a rake is more versatile.
Rakes help you tidy up the yard, and are great at picking up bigger debris too. A leaf blower isn’t going to move tree branches as a rake can. Get to know your yard and DIY capacity before you decide which one fits best.
Lawnmower
If you do nothing else to your yard, it should at least be kept at a reasonable length. A lawnmower is the ideal investment. Grass grows year-round, especially in the Southeast. Keep it fresh enough to pass the neighbor’s eye test with a good mower.
Shears
Trim back tree branches, plants, and hedges with these handy tools. You will feel the burn after a while too, and your upper body strength will thank you! If the jobs get bigger, you can always invest in a set of hedge trimmers, but your shears will do just fine. The upper body workout that shearing brings is an added bonus!
Turf Medic knows how satisfying a DIY project can feel. With these basic tools, your yard will start to take shape. Your backyard oasis is a space that you can be proud to showcase!
